Burners That Light, Forks in Hand, the Register by the Podium

The stove's burners are off until someone needs one. A cook with something to cook on the stove goes there first and lights a burner, which catches from a spark to a full ring of flame, then fetches the pot or pan. A pan's burner goes out when the food comes off, a soup pot's when the pot is emptied.
Guests eat with a fork in their right hand, a spoon for soup, and their hands for a burger. The utensil leaves their place setting while it's in their hand.
At the dish sink the dirty plates soak in one basin while the dishwasher washes one plate at a time in the other, and each goes straight into the rack. She now makes a scraping sound as she clears each plate into the trash can, which stands on the floor in front of the counter. When she has nothing to wash, she takes whatever is in the rack to the cooks, even a few plates.
The register moved to a counter just behind the host's podium.
