Menu Prices, and Two Cooks

  • A new Pricing tab sets the price of every dish and drink in 25-cent steps. It shows what each dish's ingredients cost and how guests see its price: a bargain, fair, pricey or too pricey.
  • Each dish and drink has a price guests think is fair, and each guest has their own limit. A guest whose dish costs more than they'll pay picks something else, or leaves as soon as they've read the menu if nothing is worth it. A drink that's too dear becomes water.
  • When guests pay, a bargain makes them a little happier and a rip-off makes them unhappy, which changes their tips and the rating.
  • Word gets round over a few hours: the pricier the menu, the fewer guests come, and a cheap menu brings a few more. On Easy nobody leaves over price, and the effects are half as strong.
  • For balance testing, the default crew drops to two cooks. A full day was losing about $630, with wages the biggest cost, so this tests whether the kitchen keeps up with one fewer.
