The night moves to the camp's own ground, and the risen look like people

  • When night falls, the screen leaves the map of the land and shows the camp up close: thirteen paces of bare ground across, the fire in the middle and the palisade around the people beside it. The risen walk in from the edge on the side they came from, and come back to the map of the land at dawn.
  • The palisade has to be torn through before the risen can reach anyone behind it, and the stakes come away one by one as it gives. People inside can strike over it, so a pitchfork or a spear behind the wall is worth more than a knife.
  • A trap laid on an approach now lies across that side of the ground, three wide, so whatever comes from that way has to cross it.
  • The risen are drawn like the survivors now: the same people, with grey-green rotting skin, dull ragged clothes, the hair mostly gone, and a lean as they walk. Torn-cloth art is on the way.
  • Makeshift weapons are much easier to come by. Farm fields turn up pitchforks, sickles and threshing flails on about a third of trips; forests a stout branch for a cudgel; hamlets knives and slings. Anyone can sharpen a couple of sticks in the fire from one piece of wood. Real arms, bows, crossbows and swords, still come mostly from old battlefields.
